Hiring Manager
The hiring manager owns the decision to fill a role and usually evaluates how a candidate would perform within the team or function.
A hiring manager is the person responsible for filling a role and, often, for the work of the person hired. The hiring manager may be the future supervisor, a department leader, or another decision-maker with accountability for the position.
A recruiter usually manages sourcing, screening, communication, and the hiring process; the hiring manager defines the team's need, evaluates role-specific fit, and makes or strongly influences the final decision. Responsibilities vary by employer, and both may participate in interviews; during a recruiter screen, you may discuss basic qualifications and logistics. With a hiring manager, expect deeper questions about priorities, decisions, collaboration, and evidence from similar work; tailor questions to the person's role; questions for this person should focus on success measures, current problems, decision scope, and team practices rather than process details the recruiter is better placed to answer.
For example, a recruiter may confirm basic availability while the hiring manager asks how you would handle the team’s current priorities.
