Elevator Pitch
An elevator pitch is a brief professional introduction that explains your current focus, relevant value, and reason for starting a conversation.
An elevator pitch is a brief spoken introduction that explains who you are professionally, what relevant value you offer, and what kind of conversation or opportunity you are seeking. It does not need to happen in an elevator, and it should not sound like a sales script.
Use three parts: your current role or relevant background, one or two areas of evidence, and a reason for the conversation; the final sentence should fit the setting. At a networking event, invite discussion; in an interview, connect the introduction to the role. In an informational conversation, ask about the person's experience rather than immediately requesting a job; an elevator pitch is shorter and more flexible than a resume summary; the final line should fit the setting by inviting discussion at an event, connecting to the role in an interview, or asking a focused learning question.
For example, an operations coordinator might introduce their scheduling experience, one measurable improvement, and their interest in project operations roles.
